Education Ministry to help relocate shoplot school

SEREMBAN: The Education Ministry will help relocate SJK(T) Ladang Sungai Salak, which has been operating from two double-storey shoplots in Lukut, near here, for the past two years.

Deputy Education Minister Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said the 120 pupils should be studying in a more conducive environment and not be crammed in classrooms.
“The school can be a fire trap. We will find ways to relocate it soon,” he said after visiting SJK(C) Ladang Hillside near here.
Dr Mohd Puad said the ministry had helped resolve a similar problem faced by another Tamil school in Lenggong, Perak, recently.
The Government has allocated RM975,000 for the construction of the school but it was delayed as the school had not been able to secure a plot for the purpose.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk T. Murugiah highlighted this issue when he visited the school on Tuesday.
SJK(T) Ladang Sungai Salak, which was established in 1947, was previously located in Siliau but had to be moved when its student population dwindled.
It was then allowed to squat at SJK(T) Bandar Springhill for two years.
However, it was moved to its present location when its student population and that of SJK(T) Bandar Springhill increased.
School board of governors chairman N. Baradan said parents who wished to send their children to a Tamil school had no other option as SJK(T) Ladang Sungai Salak was the only such school in Lukut.
Dr Mohd Puad said the state Education Department would help school authorities to look for a piece of land in Lukut to build a new school.
Earlier, Dr Mohd Puad handed over a RM100,000 mock cheque to SJK(C) Ladang Hillside PTA chairman Kwan Shee Tuck to partially fund the construction of a new block for the school.
The school had requested for aid as the main wooden block was eaten by termites and was in danger of collapsing.

  1. Deputy Education minister said Hillside is a potential fire trap, so a new proper school is desperately needed. But RM100k is not enough...and no one can promise to the students of when a new one can be available...Perhaps we may need a small election to speed up the process...呜乎哀哉
